I'm not a regular contributor. I just put together a new article in wikipedia about this animal [1] and am astounded that the science news media outlets haven't picked this story up. So I thought I'd try and start one here. Anyone who's interested, please edit away and be brutal. That includes the title.

Welcome! Thanks for starting this article. However could you provide an online source (excludeing wikipedia), our rules mean it will not be allowed on the main page without at least two online sources/or proof that it is original reporting. Again thanks for your effort, its much appreciated. → CGorman (Talk) 10:05, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
And I second the welcome, and the request for links. Google produced no hits on your new rat, and the cited journal couldn't be nudged for one either(?) I sure hope the story is true...it's almost too well written to be fiction! --HiFlyer 15:25, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I found a link to the abstract, in the journal where this study was published. I think that it's enough to link to one scientific peer-reviewed source. Indeed, it appears that with the help of the contributor Wikinews is just ahead of others in mainstream media on this. -- IlyaHaykinson 16:17, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Oh yeah...it's real. It should go up a notch, no? --HiFlyer 17:57, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ping

I wrote the article specifically because it has somehow been completely overlooked by regular news. That abstract link is as good as it gets for online sources. The citation from a legitimate peer-reviewed scientific journal is the only source available at this time [2]. I guess that makes it a Wikinews exclusive. Also, a note on the date: The journal volume is considered December 2004, but the issue date (and date first available to the public) is 18 April 2005. --Aranae
