Talk:Scientists discover prehistoric cave with unknown lifeforms
Add topicScorpions or Crayfish?
[edit]From the pictures they just look like white crayfish to me, they bear no resembalence to scorpions save their pincers. I first read this article and got excited but became disapointed when I saw a picture. Great job media, lying to make it sound cool.
Ummmm
[edit]Should I bother pointing out that the article is copied and pasted from Reuters?
- I can't find the Reuters article using Google News. Are you able to provide a link to the article that you claim this Wikinews article was copied from? - Borofkin 02:57, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Date dispute
[edit]I see a dispute has broken out over whether to use May 31 or June 1... please use the discussion page here and come out with a consensus. Until then, I've protected it from editing to prevent violation of the three revert rule. —THIS IS MESSEDOCKER (TALK) 01:12, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Easy. It was published on May 31.
- (cur) (last) 18:05, May 31, 2006 DragonFire1024 (new published)
- 6:05 pm Eastern time is 10:05 pm UTC..May 31...not June 1. Jason Safoutin 01:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
I've unprotected this article on the basis that there has been no response from the other party involved in the dispute, and a reasonable time has elapsed. - Borofkin 06:38, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for handling the unprotecting, Borofkin. —THIS IS MESSEDOCKER (TALK) 00:53, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
How can they exist
[edit]How is it possible that living beings exist and evolve for 5 million years without sunlight or outer influence (the article mentions that the new species developed isolated)?
That challenges all previous notions on biology and the energy balance in ecosystems.
To sustain a living community sunlight is indispensable to vegetal life which is basis of the food chain. In the case of cave or deep sea ecosystems, where there is no sunlight or vegetal life, the existance depends on external sources of food and energy, brought into the ecosystem by falling debris of the ocean surface or animals that live in the cave but get their food from the outside environment (for example bats).
- Actually no. Life can exist without the Sun...the bottom of the oceans. Life can also exist in superheated waters where volcanic activity is in Hawaii (in the ocean). The creatures evolved without eyes bwecasue there was no sun. Jason Safoutin 16:56, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
