[edit]

The director (Directeur de publication) of "w:France Soir", a french national newspaper was fired because wednesday 1st of ffeb he published a cartoon this the title "Yes, we have the right to joke (cartoon) God" . "France-Soir" web site is offline. the cartoon is partialy visible here

Today w:Libération another french national newspaper is publishing today to 2 of the "Mohammad Cartoons" Jacques Divol 10:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC) Globaly, all the newspapers ask for freedom of speechReply

w:Charlie Hebdo, a well know satirical newspaper will publish artcles to support cartoonists, freedom of speech and freedom of press.

Politicaly, every one except religious people (catholics, muslins,...), are astouned by the level of anger against "Mohammad Cartoons". Jacques Divol 10:44, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Divol, the passions aroused by this issue, I think it is fair to say, are lost across the pond here in the Americas. I think this is 2nd or 3rd lead story stuff if the reporting is accurate enough to reflect the picture of what is going on there. [interesting your above comments, can/should that be in the article] -Edbrown05 11:07, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tell you what; these fanatics better chill out or else they're gonna have these cartoons coming at'em like there's no tomorrow..I'm thinking about putting one on my talk page right now. Neutralizer 19:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

attack

[edit]

Here the attack on EU offices should really take center stage, or be given its own article (my vote). Its not good to write an article on a large story which hides the violent reactions in the middle. Nyarlathotep 11:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The assault is the most newsworthy event in this story. The rest is context.--BitewOrms 15:54, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Muslim generalization

[edit]

I have made 3 qualifying edits to deal with the likliehodd that not 100% of Muslims are exactly the same in their beliefs and feelings about the issue. Neutralizer 16:03, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Copenhagen newspaper

In fact, w:Jyllands-Posten is based in w:Århus, not Copenhagen.

if we are going to mention the Mohommad cartoon, then I think we have to add a part of the contriversial cartoon about the quadruple amputee here. There is an uproar about that here and reporting ony on the "eastern cartoon" could be considered NPOV. Jason Safoutin 20:02, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Go for it Jason; but in a new story please. It should be reported as its own story if only because the Joint Chiefs complained about it (the "amputee" was supposed to represent a crippled US Army but was considered offencsive toward real army amputees). Neutralizer 20:06, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Although I disagree with the cartoon and I think it should have NOT been published, I am not gonig to write a separate article about it. I think its offensive and such yes but I don't think iot really qualifies as BIG news...I was just stating that this Mohommad cartoon is not the only cartoon in an "up-roar". Respect

[edit]

There has to be some respect of the religious symbols, to publish such cartoons means insulting all Muslims, it's not a matter of freedom of speech it's a matter of respect for others believes. 1.2 Billions Believe they are insulted by these cartoons and some people dose not care; so Muslims has the right to fight for their own believe. The Denmark government refuses to take any actions and who's suffering? The organizations in Denmark are expecting big losses of this boycott. I can not accept a cartoon insulting Guises so how can I accept such a cartoon on Prophet Muhammed. Personally, as long as I have the right I will go ahead with the boycott and I will boycott any products produced in countries that publishes these pictures.

'Let us respect each other believes and stop insulting each other.

HATE RESULTS HATE

--82.167.4.69 09:44, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Ali Hindi-3looshReply

I agree with HATE RESULTS HATE; Jesus said if you "live by the sword you die by the sword". I think the boycott is an excellent choice; in fact, imo, the long term objective of american led invasions is to insert american/western culture/products into the invaded countries to hopefully overtake/weaken Muslim culture (and expand markets for western goods). So, if you stick with the boycotts, this whole thing could be a blessing in disguise. I think the best thing that could happen for the preservation of Muslim culture is more cartoons and more boycotts.
In addition, two of the few freedoms we have left in our american culture is some freedom of speech and press (not as much as we used to have[1]; but we still have some); so, please don't ask, expect us to voluntarily hold back or give up any more ground than we already have in those 2 areas. "I beleive in printing funny cartoons about other people's beleifs, please respect my beleifs." Thats the problem with your arguement, its hypocritical. Why shouldn't you respect our beleif in the free press? Why is you belief more important than ours? Because its yours. And guess what, my belief is more important to me because its mine. Many people seem to think that Islam teaches violence, such as burning down embassies, should we respect their beliefs? Should we try not to "offend" them by telling them to put their torches and bombs down? I'm sorry but we cannot just "respect other's beliefs" nondiscriminantly. We respect them up to a point.

Why is there no "respect" shown to Jews? Anyone who has picked up a newspaper in the middle east has seen a Anti-Jewish cartoon (anti-semitic is incorrect in this case). Calling the Holucost a myth is respectful? Cartoons of Jews drinking blood during Ramadan is respectful? How about calling the rest of the world infidels?....It has nothing to do with respect. It is a clash of cultures, so stop imposing one on the other. [UberDork2000]

the POV Bias

[edit]
  • it's strange that everyboby seems to forget something : Caricature is by definition unrespectfull ! otherwise it's not Caricature. The "lèse-majesté" crime do not exist anymore in many countries !
  • Ok, sometimes, the cartoonist is not very good at that, but that's all, and if he/she has go to far away, there's justice's court to manage that.no ?
  • Anyway, it's very interesting to watch how things evolve.
