related storys[edit]

Im going to revert Mrms edit as it is povpushing and unmotivated here international 02:20, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Erm, no - it's weeding out unrelated links. Simply mentioning the place doesn't make it related. These two articles, as they stand, are very related to this article. --MrMiscellanious (talk) – 02:22, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Mrmiscellanious. Please use the most related artiles for related news. Jason Safoutin 02:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
well, we been there before and I feel ashame on Wikinews behalf. international 02:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with International. No more POV pushing please. Neutralizer 02:32, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a concensus. If I need to, I will mark this article as misleading. What give you the right to think your concerns are more important than mine? or anyones? Jason Safoutin 02:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Use of missleading tag would be wrong, a clear disrution. international 02:40, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No it would not...you are misleading readers with articles not related to the current news. Thats misleading. Jason Safoutin 02:43, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have to go to work. My stance: MrM's edits. Otherwise its misleading. Jason Safoutin 02:51, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No; it would be an obviously specious use of a tag to try to force POV, at least I think so. Neutralizer 11:41, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is no POV on my part...The edits made do not reflect current news. Related stories should only be added if they are really related. I am growing tired of repeating myself. Jason Safoutin 11:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the Bush quote's about his "wanting" to shut down gitmo is TOTALLY irrelivent to this artical. Its about what the chief lawyer to the british government says about this prison and its legality in international law. Give Bush his own news artical for his new justifications of continued detentions. Wanting to get concensus for delition before i just cut someones work, please post why you think it should stay if thats your view because i think they are a POV excuse for Bush. Maybe just leave the link to that story?Name is hypnosadist but having problem signing in to wikinews81.136.203.163 13:59, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

related news again[edit]

If related news is to be added, its to be added as related to the story. MrM is NOT the ony one that disagrees with your edits. Please realize that this is a community, and everyones thoughts and opinions matter. I reverted. And if anyone wants to discuss this revert, then please comment here, rather tahn ignoring users comments. Jason Safoutin 11:43, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why would this not be a related article? UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay". Wikinews, February 16, 2006 Neutralizer 11:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why? what does it have to do with the current news? Jason Safoutin 11:45, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, no theatre of war. Either you see the connection or you don't Neutralizer 11:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see the connection, as there is none. IMO...the 2 related stories are fine. Jason Safoutin 11:51, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Compromise[edit]

Let's agree to leave this one *"UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay" — Wikinews, February 16, 2006in as it's obviously related. Neutralizer 11:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow; that's funny..it's already there under a different name; the joke's on us :) Neutralizer 11:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Different name? You have yet to explai how any of these stories, other than the 2 there now, relate to this news. Please exlain, as no one has yet. Jason Safoutin 11:50, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think this would be a good compromise actually. The UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay is related, I think, and the reason is because the alledged torture is one of the reasons that the Attorney General has said Guantanamo should close (when he says it is "a symbol to many - right or wrong- of injustice"). The article also directly references "fears that prisoners have been mistreated" and so the alleged torture helps to tell the backstory behind these fears. I won't add it in straight away, for fear of starting another mini-revert war, but I reckon this is something we can get a consensus on? After all, I don't think it hurts to add more related stories than 2... Frankie Roberto 14:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry...but I see no reason to include that story. This is about the prison closing, not the torturing of anyone. Jason Safoutin 14:19, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Surely the two are linked - even if it's not the case that one is causing the other, the attorney general clearly references the alleged mistreatments when he talks about being a "symbol of injustice". The BBC article links to Guantanamo man tells of 'torture', I don't see why we should do the same. It's hardly a big deal, I guess, but what harm can it do? If people don't think it's related enough, they won't click. Frankie Roberto 15:09, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not overly fond of the use of related stories for anything but extremely related topics. However I do not see a problem with the UN alleges torture at Guantanamo Bay one, it provides atleast part of the reasons why Guantanamo should be closed. --Cspurrier 14:39, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As we've only had one objection to this 'compromise' option but a few in favour, and it's been a few days now, I'm re-adding this related news item. Frankie Roberto 16:56, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
the one you ad is same as the first, I edited in the right one international 17:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Sorry, I confused myself there... Frankie Roberto 23:45, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

War Crimes[edit]

Many Canadians are asking me why the USA's political and military leaders have not been charged with war crimes because of Guantanamo. I've got no answer other than they're above international law. Does anyone have a better answer? Neutralizer 11:53, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
