Or "US Senate passes stronger bankruptcy bill"? — DV 03:09, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

In addition to giving the article a more neutral title, per the suggestion of EdBrown05 below, I rewrote the first and second paragraphs to address the POV concerns.

Hopefully the article now passes muster, so I've removed the "dispute" tag. — DV 04:51, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

No mention of defaults due to medical bills[edit]

The proposed bill doesn't only affect debtors with credit card debt.

It also affects debtors who have run up large medical bills.

Patients with a past medical history that disqualifies them from full medical coverage, can easily find themselves facing insurmountable medical bills after just a short stay in the hospital. These individuals will no longer be able to get a fresh start after these personal disasters, and will be forced to live in poverty until they can pay off their medical bills as part of their Chapter 13 filing. (Prior to this bill, they would have been able to file Chapter 7, completely discharging their debt.)

So you could say that this bill is also a handout for large health care providers.

Perhaps the title could be revised to:

"New law helps credit card and health care industry to collect debts"

or

"Credit card and health care industry helped by new bankruptcy law"

This is a complex issue that is difficult to capture in a succint headline, so perhaps someone else will have better luck at renaming the article.

I'll go ahead and add something to mention the medical side of this issue in the article.

    • The headline is bad. It is to this date confined to being a Senate action... therefore I think the word Senate should appear in the headline. Edbrown05 02:39, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • We should also be cognizant of the fact that the lesgislation is not yet law. Edbrown05 02:57, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Senate + Bankruptcy headline[edit]

We seem to agree for necessity of new headline. I leave it now up to you in proposing -->US Senate passes new bankruptcy bill Edbrown05 03:34, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

OK, I retitled the article per your suggestion. — DV 04:51, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
