September 11: Karnataka closed for a day after Supreme Court's judgement for Kaveri water

Various cities in the Indian state of Karnataka observed Karnataka Bandh ((en))English language: ‍Karnataka closed to oppose Supreme Court's order to release 15,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water from the Kaveri river for ten days to Tamil Nadu. Southern Railway officials reported no trains were rescheduled on the route from Bengaluru to Chennai. No large-scale train ticket was reported, but other means of public transport like government bus, private cabs and metro services were suspended for the day. Wikinews noted petrol pumps and chemist shops also remained closed till 6 P.M. on September 9. Television service providers blocked more than 50 Tamil channels.

September 13: Water Disputes: Violence hits Karnataka, Tamil Nadu; Supreme Court revises Kaveri water share decision

Three days after observing Karnataka Bandh, violent attack took place in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Vehicles with Karnataka's registration numbers were vandalised in Tamil Nadu and a Tamil Nadu truck in Chamarajanagar was stoned. Pro-Karnataka activists attacked shops and Tamil people in Pandavapura. Wikinews reported Section 144 was not imposed in Mysore but farmers from nearby cities – Mandya and Hassan blocked the roads. Section 144 was imposed in Bengaluru. Police used lathi-charge to disperse the crowd near Bengaluru metro and open fired which killed one person. Section 144 clause which prohibits large gatherings. Karnataka asked the Supreme Court for releasing only 1000 cusecs of water. The Supreme Court has announced their next date of hearing was scheduled for September 20.
