copyedit needed[edit]

Minor fix needed: current wording at the time of this post has "to request" "to request" doubled in the template text. -Edbrown05 08:32, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Fixed. --Chiacomo (talk) 08:41, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

data availability[edit]

how long are user stats available to the checkuser tool? Must a request to do a checkuser fall within a certain time frame of the questioned event for the check to have more or less reliability? -Edbrown05 08:38, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really certain -- I believe it depends on how frequently the information is purged. I shall ask. --Chiacomo (talk) 08:39, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

protected?[edit]

May I ask why? international 14:35, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know; I cannot edit it either at the moment - which I think is a good thing. If I were to guess, the reason is that this is a template for the RFCU which is not a policy page but a working page. Primary CheckUser policy is set by the Wikimedia Foundation, and not by Wikinews. Wikinews has the ability to create policy regarding CheckUser only where it does not contradict or modify the WMF policy. - Amgine 16:12, 11 June 2006 (UTC) (editing not logged in)[reply]
To edit our policy without contradict or modify the WMF policy is what I like to do. international 16:18, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Amgine should be able to edit it. Whats the policy modification you want? Bawolff ☺☻ 16:20, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Amgine is not logged in at the moment, that is why he is not able to edit it. --Cspurrier 16:24, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
ahh, that makes sense. Bawolff ☺☻ 16:44, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
International: May I suggest you begin a discussion regarding Wikinews CheckUser policy in the Policy section of the Water cooler? - Amgine 16:38, 11 June 2006 (UTC) (editing not logged in)[reply]
Already done, and edits make good complements as it is bold suggestions untill accepted by concensus. Now, as I dont see any reasons to keep this page protected I ask anywikinewsie with administrarorbuttons to unprotect it. international 16:44, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a Wikinews policy page -- this is a page describing the conditions by which those with the CheckUser privilege will use the tool... it's a start. Perhaps I should say "Operating procedures". I'll make that change. The Wikipedia policy works quite well for them and doesn't permit "fishing" for answers; it is also compatible with the Wikimedia Privacy Policy and the CheckUser Policy. If there are additional restrictions that the community wishes to place on its use, I'm not opposed but those should developed seperately. If this page needs to be changed following that discussion, it can be changed. I don't wish, however, to make this policy any more lenient and I will strenuously oppose any proposal to broaden the conditions by which the tool may be used.

It is also protected because it is transcluded onto another page -- protection prevents folks from accidentally editing the page. --Chiacomo (talk) 22:00, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can oppose any changes to policy or "Operating procedures" as any other user. Not by missusing your administrator status which you are doing now. By acting like this you put your trust and status as a administrator in question. And by be linked to another page is not a reason to be protected. Unprotect it now please! international 11:54, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
