A 16 year old Samoan boy, Brandon Faananu Siaa was stabbed and kicked onto the train tracks of Bankstown Railway Station at approximately 6:45pm (AEST) Wednesday night, where he died.

Several commuters bared witness to the murder that took place at the busy South-Western Sydney train station during peak hour. Police moved Siaa back onto the platform but he was unable to be revived and died at the scene. The Bankstown train line was closed while police investigated the incident for safety reasons.

The chief suspect is a 22 year-old African-born man, but his relationship to the victim, as well as any knowledge to what sparked the attack, is unknown. High quality CCTV, footage from the station shows a man drawing the knife, which was used to stab Siaa. The suspect is receiving hospital treatment under police guard for serious stab wounds to his head and body.

Mourners have gathered at the train station to commemorate the life of the teenager, observed by up to a dozen police officers from the Regional Enforcement Squad. Many of Siaa’s friends and family in attendance wore red clothing, which may be in connection to a local gang or youth group, possibly known as ‘Young Bloods.’

Both Siaa and the suspect were known to police individually, but it is unsure whether they knew each other. The incident is very concerning for the Bankstown community, particularly with the knowledge that individuals are carrying knives on their person in public.
