I am collecting British police officers. Not any old polis, either - bizzies with recent criminal convictions. This is in preparation for a Wikinews investigation. I'm interested in whoever anyone can add to this list; the cases should be as fresh as possible and not older than a few years. I'm especially keen for officers from Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland; Englishire having the bulk of the population naturally gives it the bulk of, ah, indiscretions.
Ali Dizaei– Retrial granted.
- Russell West – Constable for Essex. Exact offences guessable but unreported; sex chat with a 13-year-old girl over webcam. Resigned.
- Stephen Mitchell – Constable with Northumbria who took rather too much interest in vulnerable women he met during his work. Convictions: Rape (x2), sexual assault (x3), misconduct in a public office (x6)
- Martin Forshaw – PC from Manchester. Felt it would be a really good idea to hit his WPC fiancée. With a hammer. Then made a mess of staging a car crash coverup. Pled guilty shortly before trial. Convictions: murder.
- Simon Hood – PC in Norfolk. Arranged to have his Audi 'stolen' when it became apparent the insurers would pay more than the second-hand market. Then boasted to his ex-girlfriend, who remained unimpressed. Presumably he'd already used 'I'm a policeman' and 'I drive an Audi'. Convictions: Conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
- Damien Myerscough – Tactical Aid officer with GMP who managed some off-duty aerobatics with his motorcycle; whilst speeding on his untaxed and unroadworthy machine he struck a row of cars and took off, striking two people and killing one. Was sincerely concerned with the immortal "I'm doomed. Was it my fault? That's it. That's my career gone. I'm a police officer." Cleared of the most serious charge. Convictions: Careless driving.
- Victoria Thorne, of both Northumbria Polis and Notorious Girls. When she wasn't earning £100-per-hour as a hooker, she was busy using the police database to run searches on behalf of her pimp. Never prosecuted for earning her main income from prostituting herself, despite a good case to prove that charge. Pled guilty. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office.
- Mark Johnson – PC, Nottinghamshire. Suffering from very poor mental health aggravated by his employers, forgot two police dogs remained in his car as he entered a station. The trial judge went justifiably ape at the force and its treatment of Johnson. Convictions: Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal (x2).
- Craig Neil Macleod and Anja Mason – The couple from Wales, both PCs, were for years the subject of animal cruelty complaints. Evidence was lacking, so a neighbour began filming them attacking their two dogs. Kicking, attacking with a stick, throwing water and so forth was recorded. Four further charges were dropped by the RSPCA (who prosecute in England and Wales) over a lack of evidence. Guilty pleas. Convictions: causing unnecessary suffering to an animal (x2 for Macleod, x1 for Mason).
- Jamie Slater, a married traffic officer who "wanted to be liked." Took mobile phone numbers from women in exchange for letting them get away with driving offences. Managed to shag two of them in his patrol car, one of whom was married, as well as two prostitutes. Eight women involved; one had to hide in the car during a pursuit. Guilty pleas. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office (x8).
- Gary Tomlinson – out celebrating his (presumably lucrative) promotion to DCI. Had an argument about 90p in which he allegedly called a taxi driver a "lying Paki bastard". This couldn't be proved; a lesser charge was. Convictions: Using threatening words and behaviour.
- Kenny Lewis – PC with Avon & Somerset who used police computers to track women he met on the job, harassing them for sex. Guilty pleas to some charges but went to trial on rape (x3) and wilful misconduct in a public office; acquitted. Resigned. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office (x8).
- Mesut Karakas – PC with the Met. Was a bit short of cash, so he and some buddies hatched a plot (inspired by The Wire) to kidnap a banker. Some of the same buddies also teamed up with him to attack another guy with a baseball bat and Karakas used the force computer to access the incident report and get copies for his pals. Pled guilty. Convictions: Conspiracy to kidnap, misconduct in a public office, assault.
- Peter Lightfoot – A GMP Special Constable who repeatedly punched a man he was arresting after he was ejected from a nightclub. Stood trial along with Sgt Stephen Russell and Pc Richard Kelsall who were cleared; they held the man down in the road. According to The Mirror, Lightfoot also lied under oath to secure convictions against the victim, later overturned. Convictions: Assault occasioning actual bodily harm, perjury.
- Jeremy Colman – Okay, he's not a cop. However, his guilty plea is topical news and he may secure an honourary place in my piece. Auditor general for Wales, guilty pleas to making and possessing indecent images of children (14 charges total; 182 images) and failure to disclose the password to a USB memory stick when required to by police. Resigned.
- Ray Clark – Constable for South Wales entered early guilty pleas after ludicrous plots to intimidate a pair of local businessmen. Was dismissed while in prison awaiting sentencing. Convictions: Conspiracy to blackmail (x2).
- Justin Weaver – living in Swansea but working for the Met as a cop. Got his civilian-worker-at-Swansea girlfriend Amanda Griffin (herself a viable target of this investigation) to check up on drugs squad files on himself. Why? Because he was running a steroid supply business. Several associates also convicted. Further, convinced Griffin to lie for him to avoid a fine for speeding in her car. Convictions: Conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice, misconduct in a public office, unspecified drugs offences.
- Richard Bowen – A Dyfed-Powys constable who sat in a car on a long journey with an arrested girl sought over car theft. Wrote notes seeking sex and exposure from her, and twice wanked into a handkerchief. Classy. Police incompetence meant he was able to dispose of the notes, but not escape conviction despite a good shot at getting away with it. Convictions: Indecent exposure (x2), abusing a position of public trust.
- Lynette White murder investigators – A group of police charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice over framing the innocent for murder. Trial one of two underway.
- Meredydd Hughes – Chief Constable of South Yorkshire and head of all the traffic cops in the land (since resigned from latter iirc). Still serving. Convictions: Speeding (multiple).
- Sarfraz Ibrahim is another candidate for the best of the rest if such does appear here. Used his position as Gwent trials chief for the CPS to drop a charge for cash and got a nasty surprise when it turned out the case was faked for a sting. Guilty pleas. Convictions: 'Corruption(?)', perverting the course of justice, misconduct in a public office.
- Peter Yeats – Sussex sergeant who heard on the job that £3.5k had been handed in after being found lost. Invented a false alias and rang his own force saying his wife had lost the dough. Resigned. Guilty plea. Convictions: Fraud by false representation.
- Daren Pooley – a Met Detective Constable who was deployed to Leeds longterm following the London bombings. Teamed up with his brother-in-law and future wife to purposely overcharge for accommodation on expenses. Convictions: Conspiracy to defraud.
- Salim Razaq – Lancashire sergeant who hid guns and cash for his drug gangster brother and arranged witness intimidation to try and collapse the man's kidnap trial. Admitted the offences. Fired quicker than usual using a fast-track process. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office, perverting the course of justice (x2), possession of a firearm (x3), possession of ammunition, conspiracy to transfer criminal property, conspiracy to acquire or retain criminal property.
- Mark Bohannan – an experienced PC with (guess who) the Met. His wife has this cocaine habit, see, and Mark figured that if he fed drugs squad info off the police database to the dealer then Denise could earn some cash and free drugs. The arrangement lasted six years; entertainingly, the dealer gave evidence for the prosecution. Everybody hates a grass, unless you're grassing on the cops, one assumes. Convictions: Conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.
- John Dougal – PC who wrongly identified a car as nicked on the streets of Newcastle and hit 94 chasing it without lights or sirens. Killed a teenage girl crossing the road. Cops in the force were internally convicted of misconduct and slapped on the wrist for some delightful comments on the deceased (nothing like kicking a girl when she's
downdead); John isn't so lucky. I feel so safe with Northumbria as the force almost on my doorstep. Convictions: Causing death by dangerous driving.
- Lucy Bevan – PCSO. I swear, I swear I'm not purposely seeking Northumbria with these two side-by-side. She used the Police National Computer hundreds of times, seeking... a bloke. She wanted details on men she met on the job in search of the perfect partner. No, it isn't April Fools Day. Convictions: obtaining information illegally (x11).
- Paul Stubbs – Lincolnshire Inspector who knows that parked cars are such small things. Tiny, really. It's so easy to go ramming up the back end of one. In this case, one young woman was left dead. Convictions: Causing death by careless driving.
- John Redmond and Darragh McCann – Dublin officers who may become the first Irish representation on this list. Trial outcome will be watched closely. Yes, it's the ROI and not the UK's NI, but they will still be suitable if convicted.
- Muztaq Patala charged
- Dustin Hunter, a Surrey constable found with 994kg (such a precise amount) of cannabis in his car. While suspended he sought other career advancement with an undercover cop and they toyed with various crime before settling on planning a robbery, with police information passed to explain how to do it and stolen cop uniforms supplied. Drugs went to trial, guilty plea on the rest. Convictions: "drugs offences", encouraging or assisting robbery, theft (x3).
- Jason Hanvey and Andrew Kennedy – The former GMP PC attacked a young girl for kicks following her arrest, the latter was his custody sergeant. Interestingly, although Kennedy didn't lay finger on her because he actively approved and encouraged the abuse both were treated equally. Hanvey had kept his job despite a historic assault conviction. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office.
- Charles Overend – The Met just keep on appearing and appearing. Constable engaged in multimillion £ propery fraud. Convictions: obtaining money by deception (x6), 'possessing a false identity'.

- Graham Wallace – attacked a bar manager, fracturing his hip.
- David Driver – A Gloucestershire PC who found two men out cold one freezing winter's night. Just left 'em propped up when he couldn't wake them and continued on his beat. Night was so cold when Jo(e) Public found them ten minutes later xe hit 999. Only one survived. Driver damn near got away with it, too, but when it became apparent he wasn't the lies started. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office, perverting the course of justice.
- Grania Hale – Sussex PC who told a drugs suspect police had a search warrant. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office.

- Ashley Forbes – PC with Grampian who drove a (cleared) boss with blue lights at speed and caused an accident trying to get the man to a flight he was late for. Frankly, I'll be looking at Chief Inspector Tom Forrester as well. Convictions: Careless driving, failure to stop.

- Michael Fletcher – GMP PC who had sex on duty with a 'vulnerable adult' twice when supposedly meeting her to make sure she was safe. Convictions: Misconduct in a public office (possibly multiple counts?).
- Daniel Lishman who began a decade of sex attacks, mostly against children, whilst employed by Northamptonshire Police as a Constable (and a Special Constable). Was dismissed early on in this timeline for "sexual allegations" made by a female colleague but not prosecuted for these. He used a dog grooming business, and claimed he was a cop to help him access people to attack; at least one was imprisoned in his van; he took snaps of his escapades. - Paul Page – a Royal protection officer with the Met who ran a spread-betting scheme from the Palace. When that collapsed, he moved on to properties - except his business didn't actually own any of the property his clients invested in. Colleagues alone coughed up £1.3M and a further £1.7M came from various others. His own name for the scam was United Piss your savings up the wall LTD. He also ripped into other officers, some of whom admitted lesser malpractice on-the-job. Convictions: Fraud.

- Patrick Byrne – Seargent who banged his wife's head onto the pavement and ripped her hair out. Convictions: Assault.

Alleged to have had sex on duty with her and hence comitting misconduct, he also faced a claim he raped the woman. - Antony Vodden - Met Sergeant, child porn interest. Convictions: making indecent images of children
- Joe Smales murder investigators - It is best to quote Lord Brown's Supreme Court judgement directly: "To describe police misconduct on this scale merely as shocking and disgraceful is to understate the gravity of its impact on the prosecution process. It is hard to imagine a worse case of sustained prosecutorial dishonesty designed to secure and hold a conviction at all costs... Amongst the more surprising ["wholly inappropriate benefits"] were that whilst in police custody [grass Karl] Chapman was at various times permitted to visit a brothel, to engage in sexual relations with a woman police constable, to visit public houses, to consume not merely alcohol but also cannabis and even heroin, to socialise at police officers' homes." The Supreme Court holds this amounted to perverting the course of justice.

- Russell Dew, Nottinghamshire, charged.
- Mark Fisher, aka Fish the Flirt, who misused police records to search out women for sex, gave one money and booze with a promise to feed her drug habit if she fed his sex habit, and made a potential future trial difficult or impossible by showing one woman an image of a suspect in an assault upon her.
