Splashes in a vacuum--April 15th, 2004[edit]
You've probably never thought of this question: Does water splash when it drops onto a flat surface, in a vacuum?
A team of scientists working on a different problem (the energy of the droplets flying away from the splash) decided to do their experiment in a vacuum to eliminate air resistance and make their results more accurate.
To their surprise, there was no splash. When the pressure was that low, the water simply doesn't splash. And they don't know why.
