Last weekend, three U.S. collegiate records fell as Jamaican teams demonstrated their outsized sprinting prowess at the 2024 Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The World Athletics Indoor Championships is the highest-level global indoor competition, typically held once every two years. The U.S. won the most medals at the preceding indoor and outdoor championships as well.
One feature of large track meets like the Penn Relays is that not only the winners can go home with accomplishments, as demonstrated by Carlos Santos setting a El Salvador record in the 3000 metres steeplechase despite finishing in 6th place this year.
