Welcome[edit]

Amanda St. John, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 03:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright Violation[edit]

I have marked An account of the Esperanza Fire from an animal rescuer]] as a violation of copyright as it is simply a cut and paste of the article on another site. To make this acceptable for Wikinews it needs a rewrite - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 03:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amanda, if that is the case then it should be noted on the article's talk page so admins like myself know where it comes from. At the same time there can be WN:NPOV issues if you actually work for the organisation. If you need any help I would be more than happy to help - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 10:06, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Amanda, well the issue is no longer copyright but now NPOV (as above). The problem is we try to write articles which are not bias, when you are working on an article for your organisation there could be such an issue. What I am happy to do is perhaps conduct an email interview with you about the issue, that way we have the press release and an interview by someone independent - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 07:23, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd love to talk to you and elaborate on this story. Please let me know how to safely communicate my personal information. Thanks. Amanda.

Hi Amanda. Articles shouldn't be written by an interested party in a company. Please WN:NPOV and Wikinews:Introduction for more details on this. --Skenmy(tcwi) 20:20, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. A news article is a news article even if it's telling the story of "what happened" in the first person from a "insert occupation here" perspective. Towsonu2003 07:29, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
