[edit]AntonioMartin, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! → CGorman (Talk) June 28, 2005 10:52 (UTC)
- Hey Antonia, thanks for the thanks! I welcome all new users here everyday, i've probably welcomed about 700 or so by now, I just love wikinews and want to help people to settle in. Your a Puerto Rican - when I was on holdays in New York last year, one of our taxi drivers was Puerto Rican, really nice guy, plenty to say! Nice to see you love our little island; that film (where did you see it! - it was a really low-budget film) was called Waking Ned. I personally have a slight dislike for Aer Lingus, mainly because its main rival (Ryanair) is run by a person from my home town. I love my country, because 20 years ago we were among the poorest, most corrupt nations in Europe - unemployment was 20%, the country was bankurupt - today we are among the wealthiest, happiest and most optimistic people in the world. The Economist magazine labeled Ireland as the best place to live in the world earlier this yesr - and I agree - i've been to a dozen or so countries and been exposed to many more and no where beats here.
- I look forward to working with you at wikinews - you seem to be an entusuastic, happy, optimistic character... you'll need to be to survive here! If you need to know anything just ask me; im an administrator, a member of the welcome committee, founder of a half dozen of our institutions and have been around since it all started... so good luck. → CGorman (Talk) June 28, 2005 22:37 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called AntonioMartin. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name AntonioMartin~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
