[edit]Malfidus, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! → CGorman (Talk) 9 July 2005 18:06 (UTC)
Your News Cast
[edit]Your first news breif was fantastic! Wonderful! Great articulation, pacing, and tone. Keep up the good work. --Munchkinguy 02:53, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- I agree it sounded great! --Cspurrier 03:04, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Another congrats from me as well! Where is that music that you have? It sounds better than the WN jingle we have now. --Mrmiscellanious 16:13, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback - I thought the project needed a British representative :)
For the music, I used Winamp with crossfade and manual playlist advance (so I could loop the background music). I uploaded the music files I made to Commons in case anyone else wants to use them. They may be a bit confusing to use though :\
- I started the broadcast with Media:Malfidus_news_start.ogg - it's quite short and leads into the next audio file...
- which is Media:Malfidus_news_loop.ogg - it can be talked over, and can be looped if you need to talk longer than 20 seconds or so.
- The main theme is Media:Malfidus_news_theme.ogg.
Sorry I didn't use the official WN jingle - I didn't know there was one. Bye --Malfidus 20:11, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- There isn't really an official Wikinews anything :) Anyway, I think your jingle is much, much better. I suggest we all use it. The original one sounds a bit cheesy and not really news-like.
Hello!
[edit]Hello!! and thanks for getting involved with WikiNews audio. Did you create those sound samples yourself? --RossKoepke 20:28, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Hi! Yeah, I used Sibelius to create the sound samples. They were originally intended to be used for a project similar to this, but that project went defunct before they were ever used.
And thanks for the warm welcome everyone :) --Malfidus 20:41, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

WN remix jingle
[edit]Hello! I saw that you used a remix of the original Wikinews jingle in one of your AW Full Reports. Did you create this yourself, and could you put up a link to it like you did with the other jingle? I'd be interested in having it for my own recordings. Cheers, --Cllewr 17:46, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
