Welcome
[edit]Phyzome, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! CGorman 14:52, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome, CGorman.
Dialogue
[edit]I'm ready for dialogue, how about you? Paulrevere2005 20:45, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yup. So, basically, I'm just trying to figure out the best place for your political thoughts to go. You've made some excellent points, and I do agree with your overall view, but I'm approaching this from a "librarian" perspective - finding the ideal location and structure for information. I've seen some places where you've posted the same chunk of text on multiple article talk pages, which kind of clutters them up and gets a bit redundant. One thing I've done when I want to express the same idea on a bunch of pages is to create subpages in my userspace, like "User:Phyzome/Essays/Political" or something of that nature. Then I can reference them from talk pages without interfering overly with any discussion that's going on there. Incidentally, this is very useful for topics like Evolution vs. Creationism where the same points get raised over and over again, requiring the same rebuttals. What do you think? -- Phyzome is Tim McCormack 14:11, August 2, 2005 (UTC)
BREAKING NEWS story is perfect
[edit]It is the BEST article wikinews has ever had, if you've got a problem with it fix it up yourself 66.111.38.110 21:43, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
- [I assume you are referring to this, now here.] I beg to differ. It would be a great news story, if the sources made any mention of what you claimed. Incidientally, the only change I made was to move it back from <<publish>> to <<develop>> -- it simply was not in anything near a publishable form, even for breaking news. I'll leave debate regarding the article's technical accuracy and newsworthiness to its talk page. -- Phyzome is Tim McCormack 14:49, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

- Yes, this edit appears to be a straight copy from here. I've reverted to the previous version. -- Phyzome is [[User talk:Phyzome|Tim McCormack]] 22:14, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
