Welcome to Wikinews!

Getting a head start as a Wikinews contributor
Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have a short essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally. As you get more involved you will want to look into the key policies for the project and other discussions you can participate in, so keep this message on your collaboration page and refer to the other links in it if you have problems or want to learn more. |

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.
Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere. The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing. Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly. |

Places to go, people to meet
Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project. |
Where you can help and get involved

Do you have documentation of the permission from Kerala.com? You should mail the license information to a volunteer at wikinews-en@wikimedia.org . Alternatively, rewrite the story using 2 independent sources, as described at Wikinews:Copyright. --InfantGorilla (talk) 07:22, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes , I am working as Editor for the same : if you want any reference you can contact soumya.bijoy@insidekerala.com
Thanks Sachin
- The insidekerala web site has a copyright message that states "All Rights Reserved", per the above comment by InfantGorilla you really should look over Wikinews:Copyright. I see the article has been tagged as single source, but if you're a reporter/editor you may be able to claim original reporting if the story is built from attending court proceedings or reading judgements etc. To do that you would add a section on the collaboration page for the article detailing how this is original reporting.
- The article could also do with some cleanup and being put into context for an international audience. It will be read from Canada to Canberra so you really need a more descriptive title that explains what has gone on, then the first paragraph should answer "What Where When Who Why, and How" (5Ws and H). The above welcome section has a link to a short essay on how to basically lay out an article according to the project style guide. WN:ARTICLE effectively is a must-read; it shows how to properly cite sources using the {{source}} template. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:33, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Sachin. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Sachin~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
