Welcome

[edit]

Uma~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Jacques Divol 19:45, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't

[edit]

Don't just go creating a duplicate of an article because of a copyvio, the correct method of dealing with this is to follow the instructions on the copyvio template, create an article on the sub-page and ask for someone other than the tagger to review. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:11, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your deleted article

[edit]

Hi there. I see you're upset that your article has been deleted. I'd like to point out that Wikinews has a policy of immediately deleting violations of w:copyright. The problem is, you're putting text in one of our articles that has been published elsewhere. So we have no indication that you wrote this text originally, or still own the copyright to it, we cannot accept your submission.

If you'd like to write the article again, this time without the copyrighted text, please do so! We'll gladly help you out.

Thanks. irid:t 14:40, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I apologize if someone accused you of writing spam. Note, however, that we use "spam" in a couple of different ways on this wiki. For instance, my edit summaries where I reverted your edits to two talk pages included "revert spam". In this instance, I used the word "spam" to mean something that was posted in several places without significant modification.
I want to point out that what you're writing borders on harassment of our users. Please keep your talk page edits limited in their scope.
If you'd like to work with me on this, please collaborate with me on my talk page. I'll help you get your article published on the English Wikinews. Thank you. irid:t 15:01, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to write on either talk page. :) Here's what I would suggest: As long as you're typing in the box, rather than copy-pasting, you're probably fine! You can use all of the same sources as your original article, and even cite your article as a source. Keep in mind, however, that we have a policy of citing multiple sources soas to maintain balance. (We have to assume that a single source article, no matter how well written, cannot be balanced).
Also, because this is a wiki, don't be offended if someone sails in and tags your article with cleanup, NPOV, sources, etc. Don't worry about it. The only thing you need to be concerned with right now is avoiding the copyvio. :) I'll help you with anything you need, just drop a note here or on my talk page.
(By the way, I can instantly see anything you write on this wiki, so it doesn't matter where you type, I'll see it.) irid:t 15:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
