Welcome[edit]
Ycanneh~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- If you're interested in audio recordings, Audio Wikinews could always use more contributers
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Bawolff ☺☻ 21:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Spelling Conventions[edit]
Hi, I have a question regarding spelling conventions. What is standard practice in choosing between AMerican style and English style English. I'm looking atHorse_racing:_Silver_Birch_wins_the_2007_Grand_National. specifically the word "favourite" would it be appropiate for me to change it to "favorite" or keep it how it is? Thanks? Ycanneh 21:21, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Umm i think it was we use the variant of whoever started the article. So if it started with British English, we do the article as British en, if it started as en-us, we keep it at that. see WN:SG#Spelling for more details. Bawolff ☺☻ 21:29, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Ycanneh 21:30, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

- Most of the time we use the locality of story, if there is no clear locality then we fall back on first writer decides. For the most part though as long as the two types are not mixed in the same story either is ok. --Cspurrier 21:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
javascript[edit]
Try user:Ycanneh/monobook.js (as oposed to user talk:). By the way the stuff in mine does didly squat, and is really not that useful if you're wondering. The top half only allows you to open one show/hide dynamic box in a page at a time. the bottom half is me experimenting with the comment tab, and is supposed to be commented out, since its now in the sitewide js, but isn't because i'm lazy. Bawolff ☺☻ 21:52, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ya, thanks. I'll probally just go w/out it anyway. Over on WIkipedia I use some stuff, but changes dont seem to go too fast here anyway to the point that I would need any shortcuts or anything. Ycanneh 17:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Protection[edit]
There is more than one level of protection. The article isn't protected from edits, just from renaming to stop us having any more redirects than we absolutely need. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:03, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Re: Protection?[edit]
The protection is a moveprotect. Users can still edit the article. It would be unfeasible for the article title to be updated every time a new figure is released - causes many broken double redirects. --Skenmy(t•c•w•i) 21:03, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- SOrry, I didn't realize it was only move protected. Ycanneh 21:04, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
A secret[edit]
Hi there,
just wanted to say that I really like your contributions on this site. Also, I wanted to inform you that Wikipedia's GFDL license prevents us from redistributing the content under our cc-by-2.5 license: in other words, you can tell newbies that copying from Wikipedia is against the rules. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Ycanneh. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Ycanneh~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
