Welcome[edit]
Zantastik, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- Davodd | Talk 05:59, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)
We welcome multiple articles on a single subject on Wikinews. Sometimes the articles will have different angles, or focus on different elements of a single story, and each has its strong points. In this particular case, however, the initial author of the spanish article (User:Carlosar) is also the contributor who created the link here on en.WN and is probably planning to translate his earlier article.
It is generally considered polite to wait until the initial author make the initial save, since it is likely they will have to deal with an edit conflict if you do not. - Amgine 03:48, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Article about the Oil for Food issue[edit]
Thank you very much for your comments. Actually my article Oir For Food is in great part a translation of the Oil-for-Food Programme article in Wikipedia. I just updated and added somethings, including pictures. I see no trouble in translating my article to English. I can do that when I have time. --Carlosar 10:40, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
legal issues[edit]
Actually, there is a legal problem with your article, if it is in great part a translation of the Oil-for-Food Program article on Wikipedia. Wikinews is public domain, whereas wikipedia is gfdl, and the two aren't compatible.
- What should I do? Should I change the article a little? --Carlosar 02:46, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Zantastik. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Zantastik~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
