Works of the U.S. Government

[edit]

According to U.S. Copyright Law, works of the United States Federal Government, specifically, "a work prepared by an officer or employee of the United States [Federal] Government as part of that person's official duties," are in the public domain. This includes:

  • Voice of America - The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. Public domain applies only to "all text, audio and video material produced exclusively by the Voice of America." Images on the VOA website are usually copyrighted.
  • American Forces Information Service
  • National Transportation Safety Board often has interesting reports out
