From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!
Jump to: navigation, search

This page centralizes information about upgoing events or invitations from third parties. Wikinews users are encouraged to cover them. Events are be sorted geographically

Geographical areas[edit]

Possible newsworthy events which may require coverage are presently listed by continent plus a few sub-continents. As usage of this service expands further regional splits will be implemented.

These subpages could also be added in the design of relevant portals.

Syntax[edit]

It is better to use Template:Upcoming event to format your events.

{{Upcoming event
|title=
|city=
|country=
|day=(two-digit number)
|month=(two-digit number)
|year=(four-digit number)
|description=

|coveredby=
}}

Example[edit]

Date: 2009-07-10
Description: The French President has decided to have the Eiffel tower painted in yellow, because this is the favorite colour of his dog Kittie (see the official announcement). The painting is scheduled at 8:00 a.m. as the President gets up early.

Other ideas[edit]

Calendar[edit]

A calendar-like layout could be very useful to display such information. There would be a calendar per region.

List of MediaWiki calendar extensions:

We might be able to do that with fancy templates somehow (hard, but possible I think). Bawolff 22:06, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
That would be good for us internally, but that seems useless for outsiders to add to. -- Zanimum 14:30, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

RSS feeds[edit]

RSS feeds for each region could be useful both for Wikinews users and other journalists.

Well we have the crappy history feed. It doesn't format nicely, but it gets the needed info through: http://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=Wikinews:Upcoming_events/North_America&action=history&feed=rss Bawolff 22:07, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
