Former Surinamese president Johan Ferrier dies

Johan Ferrier, the first president of Suriname died Monday at his home in the Netherlands. He was 99 years old. He served as president from 1975–1980.

Born on May 12, 1910 in Paramaribo, Suriname, he was that country's last governor before independence.

Man killed in car crash in New York, US

A 34-year-old man has been killed as the result of a single car accident in the US state of New York. The Livingston County Sheriff's Department have said that Eric Jones, who came from Rochester in the state, was driving his car on Route 436 in the town of Portage when he lost control of the vehicle at around 2015 local time, crashing into some trees and a utility pole. Jones was believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital and died on Monday night.
