Missing out on Wikinewsie emails[edit]

I've been remiss (but now in remission) on email addresses. Anyone missing one - contact me on my talk. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:28, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

About the coordinates[edit]

Do you have to give your exact coordnates, or can you give a rough coordinate so people know roughly where you are, but can't actually go to your house?--216.118.68.193 02:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

You mailing address will not be published, if that is what your concern is. --SVTCobra 02:06, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

How do I get on the wikinews scoop list? How do I contact a scoop editor? I have a copyright scoop for wikinews. It is hot now, not much later. Send me email <janwikifoto@cameraman.se> or <cameraman@cameraman.se>. I am in Sweden

Restoration of Accreditation[edit]

Could you please restore my Wikinews accreditation? The IPC requires that you be affiliated with an organisation.[1] It is not possible to raise a new request, because the mechanism does not allow this, so I am posting my request here. Hawkeye7 (talk) 19:27, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

It would require a reapplication. As I remarked where you first asked about this, the concerns haven't changed. And as I also mentioned there, I don't think en.wn accreditation would help you with the IPC... if you could get it. --Pi zero (talk) 19:47, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
And I've remarked that reapplication is not possible. You get an error, presumably because a successful entry already exists. Try it yourself. And the rules explicitly permit speedy reaccreditation. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:14, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
You'd have to do it manually, I imagine. --Pi zero (talk) 20:17, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
I think the admin tools would be required. The accepted procedure is speedy reaccreditation. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:19, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with that procedure (speedy reaccreditation). Example? The only similar thing I recall is fast-track restoration of privs under WN:PeP, and that falls back into the full process if anyone wants it to; in this case, I believe there's more than one person around who would want a full process.
I don't see why there'd be any need for admin tools since afaik we're just talking about creating a page and editing another, unprotected page.
No, it has to have the same name as the old one. So start by renaming the old page. But without the tools, this always leaves a redirect behind, which then prevents a new page from being created. Hawkeye7 (talk) 07:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
It's (now) my understanding that what the IPC wants depends on the event; what IPC event are you concerned about? --Pi zero (talk) 20:30, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
The IPC link above is to the Institute for Printed Circuits. [2] Orderinchaos (talk) 23:56, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
[3]. --Pi zero (talk) 02:42, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
  • The sub-page is renamed (moved without leaving a redirect). --Brian McNeil / talk 10:24, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Accreditation for Wikimedia contributors[edit]

{{flag}} At Wikinews:Accreditation requests/Dennis Bratland I asked for clarification on who can be accredited. This policy seems to suggest that accreditation is for Wikimedia community members, but some people seem to be saying that accreditation is for people who intend to contribute to the English Wikinews platform (this site). To what extent is there ambiguity here?

Accreditation is a valuable resource which costs little to provide but can give great benefits. There should be some controls on giving it out, and right now so far as I know, English Wikinews has the most developed system for managing the issuance of press accreditation. Does English Wikinews want to be the project for managing press accreditation for English Wikinews, or for the Wikimedia movement? Right now I think either option is open, and I would like clarity about what the members here want.

If English Wikinews does not want to manage press accreditation more broadly than this project, then everything here should be copied to Meta-wiki or Commons to serve everyone else in the Wikimedia movement and issue broader passes, right?

Here is an example of how press accreditation can be useful outside the context of news reporting. Arguably contributions to Wikimedia Commons are of comparable impact to news reporting, and an equally valid reason for seeking press passes. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:31, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

I think my words are being misrepresented. I hope this is because they've been misconstrued.
I'm trying now to compose a remark at the accreditation request, regarding the issues as they bear on that particular request. For the general issue, I believe the policy water cooler, where Bluerasberry has also raised the issue, is the place to discuss it. --Pi zero (talk) 14:41, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Sure. It posted also at Wikinews:Water_cooler/policy#Seeking_clarification_on_issuance_of_press_accreditation and directed people to come here. Any comment anywhere is fine with me. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:47, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Error when applying for credentials[edit]

I'm trying to apply for credentials but it says "error - go back and try again." I tried several times with the same result. How can I apply? Bubba73 (talk) 18:24, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

@Bubba73: Is that the "request accreditation" button that is giving you that message? --Pi zero (talk) 20:01, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Yes, that is right. Bubba73 (talk) 21:26, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
@Bubba73: It seems to work for me, although I haven't yet taken it as far as actually saving. Was this using the desktop view, or mobile view? Did it immediately give this error on clicking the button, or did it offer an edit panel and then produce the error when you tried to save, or some other variant behavior? --Pi zero (talk) 22:38, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
The problem was caused by not putting in my user name. Bubba73 (talk) 05:22, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Resolved.
