Awards

What follows is not official policy, just a few minor thoughts.
*Awards serve to boost morale and to encourage Contributors here.
*Considering such, pretty much anyone can award anything; Note: The last section is largely for new/new-ish contributors/reporters...so they know we are seeing/noting their work here.
*Please look at/adjust the parameters as you post the award, so it looks nice on the recipient's Talk page....(remember: Many people paste those onto their User page to make up a 'Trophy Wall' so-to-speak). Tweak said parameters as circumstances require.

And while we're at it...

In the Lesser But Still Important Awards section, I have some ideas/thoughts on boosting those up over the next few months. I need a bit of time to make that happen, though. I have recently dipped my toe into the hobby of 'Pen Turning' (a most satisfying endeavor, I might add) and may have some clever actions to offer in that department.--Bddpaux (talk) 21:30, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

We need more Barnstars.

I think we need more Barnstars. We now realize that community cohesion and volunteer incentives are crucial, so this absolutely makes sense. The existing Barnstar system is also far too incomplete; for example, I just wanted to award a star to someone who wrote a good, popular article, but found that only Original was available. Since Original is basically the same as Wikipedia, why don't I just find a Barnstar image related to creation on Wikipedia? Ideally, there should be more everyday Barnstars with a Wikinews-like feel. ~ Sheminghui.WU (talk) 10:26, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

I agree and I will try to work on a few -- although that is a few levels down for me in terms of priority. I laughed at the award you put on my page: Certainly a few years past my first article -- but, better late than never! Yes Authors sometimes forget themselves. Yesterday I tried to import Barnstar of most-read article of the month onto zhwn, only to find that the article was my own... However, my main concern is that the current monthly article selection process is still somewhat unfair. Export to Wikimedia Commons
