Bomb blast near Mosul, Iraq kills at least 40
A bomb blast near the northern city of Mosul has killed at least 40 Iraqis. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. military base. The Defence Ministry says 30 people were injured in the blast, which was carried out by a suicide bomber. The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting centre.


Blair challenges New Zealand to fight against global warming
The British Prime Minister Tony Blair sees New Zealand facing the challenge of playing a significant role in the fight against global warming. He mentioned in a video conference between Auckland and Wellington that the country could be a important factor in performing that change.


Cyclone Glenda intensifies to category 5 storm
Tropical Cyclone Glenda has intensified overnight. According to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Glenda was upgraded from a category three to a category five storm around 8 p.m. Australian Western Standard Time (noon UTC) Tuesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts Glenda will approach the coast later today. The bureau is also warning about the possibility of gale force winds along the Pilbara coast between Pardoo and Mardie. These winds are predicted to extend west to Exmouth tomorrow.
