East Timor
President Xanana Gusmão has taken special security powers in a bid to quell the violence raging in East Timor. The period of emergency rule, which would last 30 days, was to "prevent violence and avoid further fatalities" and lead to "rapid reestablishment of public order."
Afghanistan
Kabul Afghanistan saw the worst violence on Monday since the fall of the Taliban after a large U.S. Military cargo truck crashed into about a dozen vehicles at an intersection in Kabul killing at least 7 civilians and injuring about 40.
Indonesia
The Indian government has begun to send humanitarian aid to the earthquake hit Yogyakarta region of Indonesia. The relief effort, named Operation Marham involves both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy and aims at delivering aid materials to the victims in as short a time as is possible.
Australia
The highest ranking member of the Liberal Party of Australia, Prime Minister John Howard has said he would not support an amalgamation of the Queensland Liberal and National parties. The statement comes after the Queensland branches of both parties held separate meetings where the proposal was supported in-principle.
United States
James Yee, a Muslim chaplain formerly stationed at the Guantánamo detention camp, is now speaking out about his own experience and the incidents he witnessed at Guantanamo. On May 22, Mr. Yee held a speach at Dartmouth College in front of an audience of 100 people, telling from his experiences about his time at the American naval base in Guantánamo Bay.
Netherlands
Members of the Dutch pedophile movement are set to found a political party tomorrow, May 31. The party, Naastenliefde, Vrijheid en Diversiteit (NVD) - Neighbourly Love, Freedom and Diversity - is set to enter the 2007 Tweede Kamer (Lower House) elections.
New-Zealand
New Zealand Post is set to bring in new postal codes for New Zealand, at the cost of $80 million (NZD).
