  • Provide detailed information on the source of the file (you can copy-paste and fill out the form on the right).
    • If you got it from the Internet, provide the full URL. (Or it will be deleted in about ten seconds)
    • Most images on the Internet cannot be used. Please check with these rules before assuming it can. Images from other news agencies are unacceptable.
  • Specify the license/what it is of the file by selecting it from the drop-down list below. Only the fair use situations listed in the licensing drop down are permitted on Wikinews, Free images (such as public domain images) should go on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Every single usage should have a Fair Use Rationale.
  • Last of all, please use descriptive names. E.g. instead of IMG_2063.jpg use picture_of_bob.jpg.

If you need help with uploading an image, or if you are unsure if it is suitable for Wikinews, please ask in the Wikinews chat room (or IRC).

If the image is available under a free licence (like public domain, GFDL, CC-[BY or SA, not NC or ND], works of the US federal government, etc) or if you took the image yourself, please upload it to the Wikimedia Commons, a shared repository of content which can be used on all Wikimedia projects in all languages. Please upload all images under a free licence to Wikimedia Commons. (You will need to merge your accounts first.)
