Firstly, let me say that I do not think it's inappropriate to mention abu-gharib here -- it's an interesting point imo. But there is definitely a slight of hand here, an in-congruency if you will. See if you can pick it out ;)
Welshofer got a light sentence for being convicted of a crime that carries a maximum sentence of roughly 3 years.
Graner got 10 years and Fredrick got 8 years.
Do you see the problem with this? While the comparison is interesting, I think there is some context that is conveniently missing. 24.94.246.41 07:11, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- There is more background in the "realted news" article, did not want to repeat the whole story. I believe that the comparison is quite justified. Although there were no sexual connotation of Welshofer's actions, they were by far more violent (in general and in this case) and lead to death. The initial charges included murder and assault, carrying maximum sentence of life in prison. But these charges were thrown out by the same jury that handed down the sentence that was extremely light even considering only the remaining charges. --vonbergm 16:17, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
