OR[edit]

All photos I took of the event can be found here. I have approached LELE for an email interview as I was a touch short on time. I'll TRY and parse the Q&A segment I recorded with D.C. Douglas, but you really cannot hear the questions. I believe he repeated a few of the questions before answering, so I will at least be able to paraphrase the question and then provide the full answer. All cosplay photos were correctly asked for. I arrived on the Sunday at 11:00, and the event at about 14:00, as I am disabled and seating wasn't the most plentiful when things started to busy up. I have now approached both LELE and Meowgical Rosie via email. @Heavy Water would I be OK to forward the emails to you once I've received responses? Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 19:48, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Heavy Water (talk) 20:00, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
All proof that isn't email is now in the Photos album. Most "proof" photos also worked nicely as article photos, so you can find a lot of the proof directly there. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 21:08, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Review timeframe[edit]

Hi @Heavy Water, just wondering when you'll get around to reviewing this? I'm just worried about it going stale is all. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 11:15, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

No need to worry about staleness. OR can easily retain freshness for a month after the focal event — it's not uncommon for reputable news organizations to publish two to four weeks after (at least, here in the US). I may be able to start this weekend. This looks to me like it's solid FA material. Heavy Water (talk) 14:12, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright! One thing I'm a tiny bit disappointed by is how few people I managed to actually interact with at the event. It was only LELE and the cosplayers who I really spoke to. I think the extensive post-event interviewing has managed to keep it on a high level, but I hope at Insomnia next week I can get some more in-person stuff! I ended up getting quite sick from this event, which is a risk you just have to take with this style of thing, eg. Comic-Con is infamous for it. I unfortunately had to throw away a good interview I got with someone about Manchester Pride because I'm just not up to researching and writing an article before it's no longer relevant. I'll be well for i71! Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 22:13, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yeah. It is your first field reporting, after all. I hope you're feeling better. Heavy Water (talk) 17:03, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, doing much better! All geared up for Insomnia tomorrow, which should be good to report on too! It's a huge event so I'll get a lot of content out of it. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 21:56, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah. Can you please confirm, in your notes above, the day you attended and your arrival time? While Commons' metadata makes clear the images were taken during that time, I would prefer if you explicitly stated this. (It's rather crucial information, so I can't just cut it as unverified.) Asheiou? Heavy Water (talk) 15:55, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
How would you prefer I do this? I'm not sure how to handle it. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 17:21, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I meant just commit it to writing here like you did "I left the event at about 14:00". Heavy Water (talk) 18:27, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I gotcha. Done! Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 18:49, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hey Ash, I've started in on this (finally). Could you clarify here about Lovelock's presence at the August 27 Q&A? The schedules say it was a "Q&A w/ D.C. Douglas & Elsie Lovelock", which seems to imply she was also there taking questions, but she's not mentioned in the article and I didn't see her in the video. Did she take over after you left? Whatever the answer, I think we should make some mention of her participation in the article. I've just got the Gallery section left to review, BTW, after which I plan to briefly look the whole article over once more. Heavy Water (talk) 04:05, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I didn't see her at the event. The schedule mentions her, so I assume she probably started taking questions after I'd gone, but she wasn't anywhere near the panels stage while I was there. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 15:51, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
It actually appears she couldn't make it. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0aXpKj8FL1xP7X6S3rUknDfkMNyPVXftuxsjU3YYtNJUd8ixz3yRbW1TruxYRenFel&id=100064946610082&sfnsn=scwspmo Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 15:52, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh, OK. Can you add the Facebook post as a source, please, and remove mention of her from the "Other events" section (and add explanation of her absence, if desired). I was also meaning to ask you about when that Q&A began: Schedule said 13:00, article said 13:15, so I brought the article into agreement. Was 13:15 correct? I ask because you were there when it actually happened and the metadata dates it to 13:30, which seems most likely to be the end of the video, placing the start of the Q&A about 13:18. Heavy Water (talk) 21:12, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
13:15 was correct. There was a 15 minute delay due to D C Douglas misremembering the panel time. Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 21:38, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
