Australia mistakenly publishes asylum seekers' names, other personal details[edit]

The records of thousands of Australian asylum-seekers were released by the Australian government yesterday. Chief executive Paul Powers of the investigative department said the confidential files of refugees were accessed during an unauthorized breach and information on the refugees included their names, national identities, refuge locations and arrival.

Department of Immigration and Border Protection is now being accused of breaking privacy laws of Australia through negligence. The Immigration department provided information saying the refugee’s information was never intended to be in the public. Immigration Minister Scott Morrison explained in a previous interview that the Australian government needed to take all steps necessary to not violate the refugees identity.
