I've created a new template, {{Commons donate right}} (see right). Unfortunately, linking from it to Commons' upload wizard isn't that welcoming for users who're not signed in.
Don't know what your thoughts are on Wikinews trying to encourage image uploads in this way; seems worth a shot to me, and something we can exploit on really breaking stories where there may be virtually no media. However, it really has to be more welcoming on the Commons side for people who may never have uploaded there before. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:20, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
