The Wikinews Print Edition is a daily edition of Wikinews designed to offer a different way of reading Wikinews. It is also designed to help bring new users in, by allowing people to print copies and distribute them to those who would never otherwise hear about Wikinews.

Usually created by Wikinews user Cspurrier (who's open to outside help), new editions are created manually and posted at about 0100-0300 UTC. (The time is chosen for two reasons: Wikinews slows at this point, so stories are less likely to be changed, and this is when Cspurrier has time to do it.) Created using OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 on Kubuntu, they feature the previous day's stories, to ensure content has been reviewed.

[edit] Miscellany

  • For December 18 2007, I decided to experiment and put a small section featuring the Headline from Wikinews in other languages. Please give me feedback on my talk page, I will pass it on to Cspurrier when he returns to creating the Print Edition.

  • Noticed April 2006 wasn't done. Hope it's all OK now.

I am on vaction this week, if any one else has time to create the Print Edition, that would be great. I will resume creating the print edition next week. --Cspurrier 04:39, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
I will pick up on production from today on, then. --MrMiscellanious (talk) – 20:58, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
  • I created and uploaded the pdf version of the 26 June 2006 print edition, but not the OpenOffice.org version. I hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience. Sobar 00:03, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I was just wondering, why has the download calendar not been updated for July 2006? --Saxsux 18:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Fixed--Cspurrier 18:34, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Is there a reason why the Print Edition is released in sxw format instead of odf (OpenDocument)? Chrike 02:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, Wikinews does not allow uploads of ODFs, we need to bug the devs :)--Cspurrier 03:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Noticed that we're behind a few days I will do these Feb 15-17th and possibly 18th -- MagicalNewsMonkey 20:04, 18 February 2007
We are only missing the 18th at the moment (15,16,17 ). Unless yuou want to do it sooner :), it will be done in the next few hours.--Cspurrier 20:20, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Since we have a growing number of sports articles, I think we should have a sports section so we don't have to mix them in with the others, as some people don't think sports should be included in Wikinews. --Canadianshoper 04:58, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Putting sports in one section is probably not a bad idea, but sports will always be a part of wikinews, just like the annoying famous people are. Bawolff 05:04, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Just to make it clear, I like sports in Wikinews. Thats why I create them.--Canadianshoper 02:35, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I made an edition for December 16 2007, it is not perfect but it is better than nothing. Please comment on my talk page. (I know the links shouldn't be included but I were restricted on time.
