England beat Ireland by 48 runs in the Super 8 phase of the World Cup at the Providence Stadium, Georgetown, Guyana.

This is both teams first game in this phase, and both begin the stage without any points, having both lost to their fellow group qualifiers - New Zealand and West Indies, respectively.
