Capitalization[edit]

As of this writing, English Wikipedia is rather lonely in capitalizing "Peninsula". Commons and Spanish Wikipedia both use lower-case. It feels like a common noun to me. --Pi zero (talk)

Transitive closure[edit]

@Mikemoral: We have a perennial puzzle over the use of macro-scale geocats as the union of their parts or as categories for articles about the whole of the region. This problem is most intense for intermediate-scale things like this (another is Korean Peninsula), where there are more likely to be articles about the region as a whole, in contrast to, say, North America. Although I've treated Korean Peninsula as including both North and South countries, here I have not thus far indiscriminately added all the articles from the subcats to the parent. --Pi zero (talk) 14:55, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the hurricane articles only refer to the peninsula anyway and don't specify if either or both states are affected. Do we prefer to categorize to the parent peninsula category for events that largely affect both states? —mikemoral (talk · contribs) 22:52, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'd tend to use the peninsula category for references that aren't specific to a state, and add the state categories when there's a reference to that state. --Pi zero (talk) 23:10, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
