There has been no official Chinese comment on the event.

About 70 refugees were crossing the Nangpa Pass seeking a religious education in Nepal.

Kelsan Namtso, a 17 year old nun leading the children, and a 13 year old boy were killed. British climber Steve Lawes said that he saw a body being left there 28 hours before it was collected.
