Australia update
[edit]Australia - 30 May 2009
Some experts are calling for shift from 'contain' strategy to 'sustain' strategy response to likely pandemic of H1N1 as number of confirmed cases in Australia exceeds 200, representing a 50% increase since yesterday, prompting concern new confirmed infections have started up an exponential curve. Over 3000 people in Victoria alone are in home-bound quarantine. Symptoms are generally mild, with no reported deaths.

The Australian Government has promised 7 million for additional research in disease spread and control and has placed an order of 10 million doses of vaccine when it becomes available from Australian company CSL. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/29/2584998.htm
Wrong information purhaps?
[edit]Where do they get there information from? I live in Canada, and hear the news! There is only one confirmed case in Canada. This case was found in a girl who lives in Brandon, Manitoba. Sheesh, this is so wrong!
Canada.....

When do people figure out that the regular flu kills 35,000 people yearly?--Unionhawk (talk) 18:27, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, a lot of these cases will be where the 'regular' flu has made frail people end up with complications, things like pneumonia. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
GREECE
There are no reports of infected people yet in Greece.
If it was really as bad as they say it is, they would be measuring it by the amount of survivors, not the amount of dead.
This flu is a danger because even though it has infected relativity few people, it has killed about 2.45% of them, where normal flu kills 0.07% of victims.
Swine Flu
[edit]Very Overated!! Why is everybody so worried? If I had a destiny to have swine flue I would want it now (the first wave).
As with any virus, the first wave is survivable because the virus cannot cope with the human immune system. The second wave is deadly, and only people who have already been infected will survive.
Sorry but this seems in keeping
[edit]Reading other comments I think this might be of interest: Worried about swine flu, there's a cure!
My mother works at a hospital and if the pandemic level reaches 6 she cant leave work.
Swine flu is definitely not transmitted by eating pork. Just cook the meat thoroughly as usual. Wash your hands before and after working with food (also as usual). The death rate percentages are of significant concern, and the fact that this new virus spreads as easily as other influenzas, means we must counteract its rapid spread sooner rather than later. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.119.238.71 (talk • contribs) 00:50, 7 May 2009
World map graph exagerates spread of H1N1
[edit]A more useful tool would be to show the number of cases by state or even county to better reflect the actual number of cases. To assign the black color to Mexico Canada and the US gives the impression that al three countries are completely infected! This is extreme over exageration. Break it down to smaller districts. __
India
Airport authorities should make the swine flu tests mandatory for all the passengers. That is the only way we can prevent spreading swine flu across the globe. The MBA boy who 'caught' at Coimbatore had symptoms in USA itself, but refrained from the tests. ------!!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 61.12.14.98 (talk • contribs)
What do you think of the responses to the outbreak? Is enough being done to prevent it? Or is it an overreaction?
[edit]Nigeria seems not to have grasped the severity of the situation. Ordering "cleaning of ships is not a response to a pandemic that has killed more than 5,000 country wide. How come we do not have a response plan yet? Even if issued with pandemic today, logistics are not in place to ensure efficient dissemination to all citizens. Level of awareness of the pandemic is deplorable and this can result in graver consequences than if people were aware and are educated. More efforts needs to be put in place, not just by the Federal Health Ministry but also organisations, NGOs etc, need to educate their staff, who will drill down the knowlegde to their families. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.248.0.94 (talk) 16:42, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
i think that much more aggressive measures to curb the spread of swine (h1n1) influenza should be taken.
[edit]the government is under reacting to the H1N1 outbreak.here we have a virus that resembles the strain of flu that triggered the 1918 pandemic, and yet we (most of us) are continuing to venture into the community without any protection.the measures that should be taken are:1 prophylaxis with tamiflu or relenza to anyone who even POSSIBLY had exposure to an ill person, closure of all schools in states with confirmed cases, closure of cinemas, restaurants, grocers, and librarys, closure of the border to mexico (blocking all air travel as well),screening of all passengers on any form of public transportation for influenza like illness (especially air travel),the testing of all people with influenza like illness for H1N1,and the hospitalization of all pateints with confirmed H1N1.—63.247.60.254 (talk) 17:15, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
