Orange Romania, the country's largest mobile phone operator, announced that its client base increased in the first quarter of 2005 (January-March) from 4.93 million to 5.29 million subscribers, an increase of over 7%.
Additionally, Orange's income rose by 46.2%, from €122 million to €178 million. €167 million in income came from the Orange network, while the remainder came from the company's other investments. Company representatives were pleased with the results, and are confident that the objectives to the year as a whole are likely to be achieved.
Romania currently has approximately 10.6 million mobile telephone subscribers, a rate that is rapidly expanding. Orange Romania has nearly 50% market share. By the end of 2005, the number of Romanian mobile phone subscribers is expected to reach 11.5 to 12 million.
