Philippines welcomes world's 7 billionth baby

The Philippines has welcomed the world's seventh billion baby as the world population reaches 7 billion on Monday, October 31, 2011.

The baby girl was born in Jose Fabella Hospital in Manila weighing 5lbs 5oz. She was given a symbolic cake by the United Nations and her birth was also witnessed by the symbolic sixth billion baby who is now 12 years old.

The United Nations has declared October 31 as Seven Billion Day when the world's population reaches the seven billion mark.

The Philippines is currently the world's 12th largest country in terms of population with over half of the people under the age of 25. According to the UN Population Fund, 10 percent of girls ages 15-19 are already childbearing. The organization has stated that the birth could highlight the country's population related issues.
