I question our role in reporting this as "global news" really - it seems to be almost fearmongering against homosexuality. I mean the article was originally entitled "Homosexual attack", and still, the headline grabber seems to be the fact that there was homosexuality involved, "by another man" - rape is rape, we don't report on the hundreds of thousands of daily rapes unless they are particularly notable for a distinct reason. (Britney Spears get raped, Serial rapist stalking Madrid, etc). That they were both male really doesn't make this notable - I don't think there's really a way to "nominate articles for deletion" sadly, we don't have an "editor's desk" in that sense I don't believe, but I do kinda feel there is a place for it. I mean this is essentially a (tidier and more presentable) version of the "If such-and-such laws go into effect, the white population of the Bronx will suffer!" article that appeared a few days ago. Wikinews is too pathetically small to have notability standards. Also, I didn't mean to install FUD in the title -- I was just trying to make it more specific. Also, Britney Spears was raped? MESSEDROCKER 06:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It was the lead story on 3 News tonight. You also might be interested in this, Sherurcij. --Nzgabriel | Talk 07:15, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
This isn't even that bad in notability compared to some of the stories I've seen here, especially for international content. Once, there was a story about how a guy got a speeding ticket in Australia. 75.177.11.240 12:47, 2 January 2007 (UTC) AC2012Reply

This has been lead news on NZ TV, and front page of NZ papers Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 04:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rape is not "Homosexual Attack"

[edit]

Just because it was man-on-man does not make it a "Homosexual Attack." Rape is a crime about power and control over another, not really about sex or sexual preference. Sex is merely the "vehicle" by which the crime takes place. Let's not make this into a sexual preference issue. KG6MRI 15:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I didn't know that, I assumed that it was homosexual since it was man on man. --Nzgabriel | Talk 19:55, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
We don't see headlines about "Heterosexual attacks" Sherurcij 00:05, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
