Needs sources or OR notes
[edit]If this is original reporting (see WN:OR) then it needs notes. If not, it needs sources. Either way, it seems a bit to glowing about Turing to be neutral. --SVTCobra 01:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok I'll try and look at some examples of notes. But do you mean too glowing about Turing the man or the building? Billlion 18:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- The criticism on glowing is probably to harsh. I'll just change the word "dearth" to "very few". --SVTCobra 21:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Notes
[edit]A member of the technical staff in the School of Mathematics confirmed that "everyone had moved out of Lamb, Newman and MSS" and while it was clear that some crates were still in transit people no longer had an office in the other buildings. see also School web site changes on sources. Other academics and PhD students said they were "happy with the new building".Billlion 18:40, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, we are getting there. I tidied the sources. However, the "Pie in the Sky" from FoodOnCampus I think we can just put here in the notes as this link [1]. The same for the staff list [2]. I think it is safe to say that they are moving to the new building without these in the sources.
- Exact date of opening: Currently the article reads "today" so I assume Monday June 30. (we'll have to change the reference to "today" since we haven't published yet. In the sources, which are kinda old, both August and September are mentioned as target dates. I presume we are to use the comments mentioned above as confirmation, I just think we need to hear specifically how you know it was on this day.
- Now, if you could just quickly explain how you came to hear the above comments from technical staff, academics and PhD students, I think we will be all ready to go. As for possible explainations would be that you talked to these people because you: (work there, study there, live nearby and met them, chatted on the phone). Any these would probably suffice.

- Yes I work at the University so was able to ask the staff and PhD students, and was in the building to take the picture. While there were still some crates moving around, the building was clearly open with the School of maths up and running on Monday.Billlion 06:09, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just to clarify what I know about the "opening". There has been various announcements that it would open some time in August, and one expects some kind of official opening ceremony, my observation is that the School of Maths was "up and running" on Monday, and no longer had offices in other buildings, and was running research meetings in this building. And one can walk in to the building to see academics there. It still has some of the feeling of a building site, as the landscaping around the building has not been done, and there are a few builders working on the "teething troubles". It seems that Astronomy has not fully moved in, but photon sciences institute seems fairly well established (although I do not know if they have their experiments working yet). I thought it news worthy to say it is open, especially ahead of the published schedule. Also it seems the press has not picked up on its name (despite the wikipedia article) but that has been in the public domain for a while now, but without any obvious press releases. So in this respect it's a wikinews 'exclusive'.Billlion 06:56, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Nice to see it on the front page! In retrospect I see a better source for the statue and its funding [3] by the sculptor himself. Anyway thats the difference with a news story I suppose. It's done now and we leave it alone. Once again thanks for all the help.Billlion 09:22, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, once it is a day or two old the only changes should be to correct spelling/grammar or if the story is wrong to add a correction. Once about a week old articles should be protected from future edits and tagged as archived. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
