Thank God that someone removed the "message" from the article. Come on guys, show some respect - this man is dead !!!

Please keep mourning here[edit]

Since the function of an article's talk page is to assist in development of the article, then technically the mourning shouldn't be on this page. However, I'd rather have it here than on the article, so please restrict any mourning posts to this section. —this is messedrocker (talk) 09:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, we need to keep this page clear of that offside info/chatter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Steve_Irwin has the same bit of notice for no off-topic discussions. --Bctrainers 14:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aww, I loved that guy when I was a kid. :) 72.201.35.139 07:02, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is so sad. He used to be my hero!

I would like to pass on our condolenses to Steves family, Steves passing is a great loss, we felt that we knew him personnally due to his great enthusiasum for life and nature, he always encaptured us with this enthuisasum and made us laugh. May he rest in peace. The Fishers. England. Was originally at its own page — was moved here by Messedrocker.

I mourn the loss of another human to senseless things like this. However I think the hype over the loss of "a national hero" and other similar references needs to be put in perspective. Steve Irwin certainly did great things for entertainment, but the presentation to the world of the stereotype Aussie, not all that bright and uttering the word "crikey" every couple of sentences, cannot be forgiven. This type of coverage denegrated us all. It is a shame that news like this can be rated alongside stories of a peace deal between Israel and Lebanon. Steve's story gets almost twice the length of this other valuable and important story. Farewell Stephen Irwin, and may you enjoy the large crocodile swamps of the afterlife. We mourn your loss. RIP Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin 08:14, 4 September 2006 (UTC)08:14, 4 September 2006 (UTC)~~

I feel strongly for Steve's death, but it also upsets me the dominance of CNN used in the writing of these articles. Really, Australian news sources have written at least 10 articles per source (www.thecouriermail.news.com.au, news.com.au, theage.com.au) and yet people still resort to CNN as a resource - which has blatantly copied sentences from articles written in Australia by Australians. You CAN use work written here you know - it's not like it's written in another language, even though at times it seemed that Irwin did talk in a different one.

It may be that you're not aware of the concept of a wiki. Please feel free to insert your own sources, write your own content, and perhaps even address your own concerns. As they say, "easier said than done," editors will use the resources they have readily available and easily accessable. irid:t 11:11, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention, it is good to use varying sources so you get viewpoints from different parts of the world. Although, it should be noted that six of the ten sources are Australian. —this is messedrocker (talk) 11:14, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of the concept of a wiki, thank you very much. Just saying - and I've seen it in so many news blogs too - that everyone seems to rely on CNN with some people even saying they heard it but couldn't believe it until they saw it on a certain news source - especially CNN. It's just disappointing, that's all. And no offence, but it's the INTERNET and all sources are readily available and accessible, including ones from Australian (even though we're so exotic and may not have internet or newspapers zomg!).
We need to stop arguing about the article, this section is for remembering and mourning a great man, who did a lot for the animals of the world, and loved what he did. May he rest in peace--Aaron

...Wow. I... can't believe it. I always thought he would be killed by a crocodile... Again, wow. tinlv7

Hi. I think that steve Irwin did NOT deserve to die! He was such a great man that has brought Australia onto the map in many places. Do you agree with what I reckon? Please say something!!!! Signed--149.135.22.66 10:31, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will miss you Steve. You were a great man, and had a huge influence on my life. This was so unexpected, and so soon. But, i guess you went down doing what you love. And that is what makes you great. 24.76.121.213 20:21, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Shaun[reply]

Hello. Hearing about Steve's death has made me think we should leave some comments here. Please no rude comments, or anything bad. It just isnt the time. When i heard of Steve's death i was sadened. I have watched loads of his programs and even though he is really mad i still love watching him. It is a great shame that we won't be able to see him on TV anymore. RIP Steave Irwin. As the last weekend of the school holidays we took our family away for the weekend to a coastal holiday park. On Sunday evening in the family entertainment room I took my youngest daughter aged 8 to buy a souvenier. The shop was filled with the standard gaudy material of sweets, sticks & hats that light up and play toys. I declined her first chosen item ( a 100cm crocodile) and agreed to purchase a smaller crocodile. How surreal this choice felt on monday morning when we watched the news reporting on Steve Irwins sudden demise. My family has watched his programmes & bought his film. Yesterday my daughter handed me a letter to post to Terri Irwin which expressed her loss & sincere thanks to this man who has brought wildlife into our home with realism & humour. At her first day of school in year 4 she spoke at length about Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter and his friend Nigel Marvin. It makes me appreciate that with all the bad press associated with media and television I am grateful to this presenter for having entered my daughters heart & mind. And each time she brings me a frog, grasshopper, or spider showing no fear but only inquisituve admiration for nature I shall disguise my abomination and smile when she shouts "crikey what a beauty"

Out of all the things he "played" with over the years, a friggin stingray got him. Thats like a slap in the face to have died to something that is not normally a life-endangering animal.

You will be missed Steve, we all appreciated all you did for nature during your years here.

Thanks for all the memories.

Bob[edit]

Is Bob (his son) 2 or 3 because in the SMH article linked it says 3 but this article says 2.211.27.204.97 08:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bob was born on December 1, 2003, making him currently 2 but will be 3 this winter. —this is messedrocker (talk) 09:25, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You guys are ignorants[edit]

I can't believe how frustrated you are with a few funny catchfrazes Steve used. All those who accuse him of promoting a wrong image of Australia abroad are very wrong. Any sain person from abroad ( I am not Australian, nor am i living in australia, so I have an objective vision over the matter) could make a distinction between the australian rather developed culture, and a few expressions that Steve used. You probably think that he made people think of the aussies as some sweaty mates from down under saying:"let's put another shrimp on the barbie", but you are so wrong. You frustrated eunucs should pay some respect to one of Australia's best. What he did for wildlife and people altogether in your country and the world should be more then enough to earn him your respect. We love you Steve, you ARE a real hero to us all.

Off topic. But you could have used a spell checking tool before posting.

You say we're ignorant? Look at the title of your post.

IW:ca[edit]

Please add ca:Mor Steve Irwin, el caçador de cocodrils, is a catalan IW. In this moment I can't. Thank's you!

Hey your calling us ignorant australians have you even met an australian before what country are you from. Get a life. and you need to go back to grade 2 and learn how to spell properly. i mean i was a great fan of steve Irwin he was a great guy he was my hero, and what people say on this site shouldn't be critisized especially from an outsider that does't even live in this country. get a life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.10.121.85 (talk) 01:17, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP vandalism[edit]

Not notable. It should be removed - vandalism always occurs to current event topics, no matter what they may be. --66.227.194.89 15:06, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hardly think so, several Australian Newspapers saw fit to write about it! What you say is true many current event articles arte vandalised BUT I have yet to see many newspaper reports aboyut it!! Finaly it is topical news and hardly brings the article down, it is a nice balance to the article which is currently very gushing and POV (rightly so). I could bang on about no mention of some of the controversy surrounding him in the recent past but I wont!!! The WP bit nicely complements the 'gush' without talking ill of the dead.... Im putting it back for now - lets see what others think --Errant 18:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is in the news. [1] FellowWikiNews (W) 18:18, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not news. Wikipedia is vandalised every second of every day. It is nothing unusual. We should avoid, in order to avoide the appearance of self-promotion, writing about our sister projects. --Chiacomo (talk) 02:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Jason Safoutin 02:21, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the section - if you really want something mentioned then mention what the paper says, not just that it was vandalised.203.208.65.209 02:32, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh so much for balance - I was very tempted just now to put in the couple of bits around about all his controversy. That wouldnt be so nice!! :D ah well --Errant 02:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Title's grammar is horrible. I think the title should be changed, appropriately, to "Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead at 44".142.176.114.226 04:36, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The use of the posessive apostrophe in the title was to show that he is part of the show The Crocodile Hunter. —this is messedrocker (talk) 04:38, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
True, but I think he was known more for what he did than the name of one of his TV shows. It appears to be poor grammer to those who aren't familiar with the name of the show. The above mentioned title would be better. --User:Kalmia 06:42, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think Kalmia might be right. A TV program cant use the possesive surely :D! --Errant 09:24, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok scratch that it doesnt break any grammar laws but it can be mis-leading. I was of the impression his nickname was the corcodile hunter; so you can imagine how it read. I dont think it needs changing now though... --Errant 09:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How about "Steve Irwin teases one deadly animal too many"? Don't get your panties in a bunch, the guy had a sense of humour, he would have chuckled at that epitaph. TRWBW 10:23, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MySpace bulletin[edit]

"On MySpace, there is a bulletin in circulation that asks people to sign their name in honor of Steve Irwin. Note that the bulletin linked to may not feature the latest changes."

Who gives a shit about a MySpace bulletin? And a link that doesn't seem to work?

Edited the passage out, listed as non-notable. 71.99.120.11 03:18, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Public Memorial Service[edit]
