treasure?

Hi,

Suggesting here that the word 'treasure' for temple assets be removed. The correct word is assets, as per this reference by P J Cherian, director, Kerala Council for Historical Research and the director of the archaeological excavations at Pattanam in Ernakulam district. ..असक्तः सततं कार्य कर्म समाचर | असक्तः हि आचरन् कर्म.. Also note "The Antiquities and Art Treasure Act of 1972 says that if you or any institution has artefacts or materials with cultural or historical value, the state has no problem in you possessing it. Nevertheless, you cannot misuse, melt or export them. That is why the Supreme Court has ordered for the preparation of an inventory of the temple assets." in the same article. One can not therefore value it in terms of weight legally.

As a sidenote "We cannot destroy the assets by melting or selling them to 'solve' the present deficiencies and difficulties. • Not done, this is a rather confusing request. I see no indication the treasure is being valued by weight. I don't for one second agree that 'assets' is a better term. 'Assets' is a rather cold description one would use for a pile of gold ingots. 'Treasure' properly conveys the cultural and historical value alongside the financial one.
