this is breaking news and you guys are journalists you should be able to inform us whenever you can are at least add more to it when you guys are wired with the information iam not blaming the wikimedia foundation for anything i just don`t think this article should be a brief.

It was a brief because its going to need to be expanded upon. Its breaking because the story JUST coame around. You changed a few things that I do not agree with...like the judge wished for his name not to be released....ummm what does it say in the sentence above that? The judges name. It was a source that does not want to be identified...

I realize it's "normal" in American propoganda to refer to him as "Saddam" -- we see it over and over again, as Fox News and the AP and Reuters give us the fair & balanced one-sided perspective of the story. But really, Wikinews aspires to a higher standard. Unless we're going to consider it acceptable to have references to George W. Bush as "King George," I have to object to referring to Mr. Hussein merely as "Saddam." I fixed this problem in the article; can something be done about the jingoistic title of this article, or will we need to start a new article with a proper title?

Well I am sorry you feel that way. But I worte it as Saddam...and I think that it suits it just fine. So I do not want to change it. No offense...but if you regester and you do not like it you change it. And its not propaganda. DragonFire1024 is Jason Safoutin 18:26, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
"Saddam" is actually more like a surname than "Hussein". See here for a comprehensive discussion of his name. --Deprifry|+T+ 18:36, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not an unreasonable request. We should maybe say "Saddam Hussein" as his news coverage has been thin lately. BTW, Hussein is significantly more common than Saddam, no? Nyarlathotep 18:36, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well I see and watch on the news all over and use Saddam more often than not. In my opinion i just think it sounds better.

If I may, I'd like to add my two cents. Typical practice seems to be to begin the article with someone's first name and continue with their last name or a title and last name, such as "Mr. Hussein." The title could also be something like Hussein's judge submits resignation. --LoganCale 20:37, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Naming traditions vary a lot among different cultures. E.g. many cultures in India have no tradition of family names - neither from father to child nor from mother to child, though they sometimes take one of the names from a parent and use just its initial. People in Indonesia often have just one name. Sukarno had only one name, but western reporters having difficulty accepting this concept eventually "discovered" his first name and at least one encyclopedia i looked in a long time ago listed this false first name as if it were real. In any case, the reference listed above makes it fairly clear that: Hussein is also a first name (not a family name) of the person we are discussing; most people in Iraq and the region use Saddam and it is considered normal and not offensive: http://www.cbc.ca/news/indepth/words/saddam_hussein.html Boud 22:31, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure on all of Boud's comments on naming, it isn't a subject I've investigated in depth. However, from reading the Thai news, the press there will cite full name first, then what we would call first name. So for a first mention of the Prime Minister you get Thaksin Shiniwatra. All following references are to Thaksin. The title has to be changed because of the improper capitalisation, why not put the full name in there at the same time and use the "first" name throughout the article? --Brian McNeil / talk 22:40, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is the picture caption correct? I thought the trial didn't start until 2005, not 2004. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:44, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are correct...I was typing fast and realized that I had done that, but I had already left for work Dragonfire1024 is Jason Safoutin 12:45, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Saddam Hussein should be wikified to [[w:Saddam Hussein|Saddam Hussein]] and the same for Rizgar Mohammed Amin. JoshuaZ 23:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done - First mention of Saddam has been wikified. Thunderhead 02:52, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
