Ping I pinged this a few minutes ago. Continued pinging makes the headline show up twice on the RSS feed list of headlines. I refreshed my RSS feed, but did not see the Quake headline yet. -edw 18:17, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

here is the [ping] record. -edw 18:21, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It's now reported as 8.7. We need to think about moving the article headline to reflect this, although this may not be the final magnitude estimate either. 19:55, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Pointer on breaking news[edit]

It may be better to retire an outdated story when an major update happens (like an upgrade in the intensity) - and start a fresh story - readers who read the old version are less-likely to re-link to the same location looking for updates. They will be looking for a new story. -- Davodd | Talk 20:23, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

A 10cm tsunami? Is that the right scale? -- 15:48, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Yes, the cited articles state that it wasn't much of a tsunami. We get bigger waves in Santa Cruz. — DV 17:29, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The News is now saying this has killed 1,000. There was a local Tsunumi of 11 feet...This was reported out of Tai News/Sky news.
