sine die means postponed to a date unknown but far in the future (much more far in fact
[edit]Ever tried Latin ? a very good language, usefull to understand Italian, Portuges, French and spanish languages (Romanian too :)
on wikipedia : Sine die Jacques Divol 12:20, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes thanks for that - and I knew it was Latin and looked it up on WP but it seems slightly estoric top have it in the article when "postponed indefinitely" is much better to a global audience who may not even have heard of latin. It just makes it a bit 'elite-ist' when there is no need... --Errant 12:44, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Latin terms are often used to describe legal matters without being seen as elitist. Rob T Firefly 14:23, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- it's a way to learn new words ? As long the meaning is correct, no problem for me. Sine die is often used in french, my bias ... Jacques Divol 15:05, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- This is the English Wikinews. Why use (only) Latin here? Why not Ido or Urdu or Hindi or Cantonese? PVJ(Talk) 14:26, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- it's a word present on english wikinews. It's elite-ist ok. As long others understand, it's ok even to use hindi or any language Jacques Divol 14:41, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
2,558 kg? That's a big boy!
[edit]I think you meant 2.558

20:38, 6 September 2006 (UTC) - We should probably standardise these ambiguities to avoid confusion. For example most editors would write one hundred thousand as 100,000, but I would write the same thing as 1,00,000 due to the fact that I am accustomed to using the Lakhs, crores system. Then someone would revert it and then we would have the same sort of problems that we have with regard to British and American spellings. PVJ(Talk) 14:36, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
