Hey, FWN. Can you double-check the quoted number of Canadian troops originally stationed in Afghanistan. The article states 15,000, but it is unsourced and seems way too high. I'm pretty sure the most we (Canada) would have had were 3,000 to 5,000. Jcart1534 18:06, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Good point. I've never thought we had that many troops, but I seen it on the first para of w:Canada's role in the invasion of Afghanistan and it's been their for a long time if you check page history. —FellowWikiNewsie 18:13, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I see that. But I think it is being misread. It says, "Of the approximately 15,000 Canadian troops who have been stationed in Afghanistan, 2,500 remain as the standard complement." The key words are: have been stationed. This is the total number since 2002, with 2,500 being the maximum number at any one time. I don't think we could muster together 15,000 troops! I went to the Canadian Forces website, looked through news releases and found this from 2002: "The Honourable Art Eggleton, Minister of National Defence, announced today that Canada is sending approximately 750 soldiers to Afghanistan as part of Operation APOLLO, the Canadian contribution to the United States-led coalition campaign against terrorism...The 3 PPCLI Battle Group will join approximately 1,700 CF members already deployed in South West Asia and is expected to operate in the region for up to six months." Question...

Why is this article illustrated with an obsolete vehicle that I would be very surprised was ever sent to Afghanistan?

Six-wheeled light armored vehicles might have remained in the inventory but I am pretty sure it was only the newer, larger, eight-wheeled variants that were sent to Afghanistan. Geo Swan (talk) 02:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
