help by translation
[edit]Ladies and Gentlemen, I need your help. I can understand the passage "for a first round pick in next year's draft and cash" does not translate into English. Here it seems to technical terms to act, which no translation dictionary knows. Even me as a football fan, they are not known. Greetings Franz --80.130.241.150 21:53, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Can anybody help me? Greetings --Franz - (talk) 16:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Probably you should mention that you are translating this text for the German wikinews (from English to German) and that, apparently, nobody is able to translate this piece of text into German. Could anyone please explain the very last part of the last sentence such that it becomes more comprehensible to people whose mother tongue is German? Greetings from de.wikinews --Angela H. - (talk) 16:22, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
--+Deprifry+ 17:01, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Vielen Dank für die ausführliche Erklärung! Ich hatte mir schon den Kopf zerbrochen, Franz wohl auch, und es gab auf de.wikinews einfach niemanden, der den Satz verstanden hatte und uns das erklären konnte. Vielleicht wissen wir einfach auch zu wenig über die amerikanischen Sport-Ligen... Viele Grüße --Angela H. - (talk) 17:15, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

"In other transaction, Toronto FC traded Right Winger Ronnie O'Brien to San Jose Earthquakes for a First Round Pick in next year's draft and cash."
Lets start off with definitions. Maybe this will help find the appropriate German words.
- transaction: The meaning of this is trades, contract signing, transfers etc. In this case, it was a trade or a player exchange transfer. Trade is the more common name for it.
- Right Winger: This is a position as many of you should know.
- Draft Picks: This is where all the teams get together with the league and the teams get to pick players where they have the right to negotiate a contract with the player. The draft pick was the first round draft pick. I hope this can help with translations. Kingjeff - (talk) 15:23, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. The main problem was that none in de.wikinews knew anything about the choice of players for the league (and about the name "draft picks" which was separated in the article's last sentence and also close to the "cash"). Thanks for your help. --Angela H. - (talk) 12:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
