So far this article is secondary coverage based on the Los Angeles Times and CBS Channel 2 websites as primary sources. This is what we need to do to add value to the article:

  • Original reporting: have somebody who lives or works in the area photograph the signal from the railroad platform.
  • Background information: Include a tutorial on how railroad signals work, with particular emphasis on the signaling system in use on the Metrolink line.
  • Expert knowledge: include more detailed information on failure modes of railway signals.

Until this can be done, the article is merely a paraphrase of the work of others. 69.140.152.55 17:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unless you know someone who is in LA - likely you wont get a picture of _the signal_ involved (at least not in time to publish this). Why not use a generic image or one of the other several crash images. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 21:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

There must be some WikiNews editors in the L.A. metro area. A photo of the signal in question adds value to the article by establishing the specific type of signal involved, and allowing readers to judge for themselves whether the signal is clearly visible, or is obscured and difficult to read. Otherwise this article is just a summary of Los Angeles Times coverage, with minimal supplementation from other online sources. (If the picture already exists, the question then becomes “how can we obtain copyright permission?”) 69.140.152.55 03:49, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Huh?

Chadswith where? What state? Does Wikinews have witnesses? Since no, title should be "witnesses say". Doomed train, where? DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 16:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article originally said "Chatsworth, California," but California was removed by the peer reviewer as redundant. I put it back. 69.140.152.55 22:14, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Now the city name appears twice in the same sentence. That is redundancy that should be removed. 69.140.152.55 04:17, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
