Translation of Haitian constitution

[edit]

The Wikisource translation of Article 135 used here is problematic

  1. It is of unknown author, so tagged for deletion at Wikisource (see wikisource:Constitution of Haïti )
  2. Item f does not make sense (though I don't think it is relevant for Wyclef Jean)

I suggest deleting it for now, and using a Wikimedia translation network to recruit a new translator. Is a copy of the original available?

Oops, how did I miss that template at the top!? It looks like it came from [1], which has the same mistake in item f. The same site has the original French available. I'll put that site as a source and take out the Wikisource link. Quoting the relevant bit is surely justifiable fair use. the wub "?!" 23:00, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think so! --InfantGorilla (talk) 00:26, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Incomplete?

[edit]

My gut feeling is that it is POV to publish an article about a celebrity candidate known in English-speaking countries, without mentioning other candidates?

Who has announced their candidacy? Who else is expected to stand/run? When is the deadline?

I really don't think this is a POV problem, I've tried to be as neutral as possible about Jean himself, including some of the criticisms others have made. Once the candidates are ALL officially announced and campaigning is underway, then making sure they each get their fair share of coverage may be both more important, and more practical.
As for the deadline I have no clue. It still seems to be early days yet, and things there are rather up in the air - these elections were meant to be in February but were postponed because of the earthquake. the wub "?!" 23:23, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah, August 7th is the deadline. [2] the wub "?!" 23:27, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would like to hear what other contributors have to say about NPOV. Though I like to think that we have higher standards even than the CSM, Guardian and AFP, that is just me, and my darn gut feelings. I won't stand in the way if no-one else objects. --InfantGorilla (talk) 00:26, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think its fine, as the article is about a famous person throwing his hat into the ring, not about the election in general. Bawolff 06:13, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Bawolff. The article is about one famous person who is considering running for election. That's the angle all the sources are taking, because that's the story really. Another article can be written when there's something newsworthy to report about the election itself, but for now, the news is that some famous man is thinking about running.
