Template:Portal small

For most small topics, {{portal}} is to big. If there is only 15 articles on the subject, having them sorted by how many took place in each continent like {{portal}} does is way overkill. (especially if all 15 took place in north America). Hence this portal template.

See Portal:Linux for an example of this template in action.

Instructions[edit]

This template does not need to be substituted. (but if you do substitute it, rest assured its all good).

If the name of the category is the same as the name of the portal, all you have to do is

{{portal small}}

on the portal page. However there's a couple other optional things you should do. The template takes the following parameters you should use:

  • img Name of Image associated with portal. For example, the crime and law portal might (hypothetically) use File:Justice and law-wikinews.png. It would add the parameter. img=Justice and law-wikinews.png
  • width. Width of image. Defaults to width=150px. Use only if the default doesn't work for you.
  • nav Name of a nav template. For example, portal:Sports would use nav=sports/subtopics for template:sports/subtopics
  • wikipedia Give a good 'pedia link for futher reading. Defaults to the portal name if unspecified
    • For example, portal:spam would specify wikipedia=Spam (electronic) as to avoid the disambiguation page.

Obscure parameters you shouldn't need[edit]

  • First unamed parameter - The portal name (if different from pagename)
  • category (overide the category the portal is for)
  • count number of articles to show (defaults 10)
